Supercharger Kits for the Pontiac Grand Am
Superchargers for the Pontiac Grand Am.
What is a supercharger?
A supercharger is a compressor of air used to force more air (and consequently more oxygen) in the combustion chambers of an internal combustion engine, which can be carried out with ambient atmospheric pressure. The additional mass of oxygen-containing air improves its volumetric effectiveness enabling the engine to burn more fuel in a given cycle, thus producing more power. A supercharger can be mechanically powered by a belt, chain, or gear driven by the engine's crankshaft.
A supercharger greatly increases a vehicle's horsepower. There are two expensive options that most driver's have to choose from to make vehicles faster: a supercharger or turbocharger. Unfortunately for the Pontiac Grand Am, the only option is to supercharge, but there is always the possibility of having a custom turbocharger built.
Recommendations
- RSM Supercharger Kit from PYFC.com
Adds about 60-80 horsepower, but quite expensive. - Vortech Supercharger Kit from Z-Spec
Gains up to 80 horsepower, 75ft/lbs of torque with 6-8 PSI boosts. ECU tuning can be added for a little extra. Definitely the cheaper alternative for a quality supercharger.
